Visit the road marker for the “Spirit of 1776” suffrage wagon on Vimeo.

The historic road marker was installed in 2018 to commemorate the 1913 rally and parade that brought votes for women supporters and opponents out in the open. Visiting Huntington, NY where the road marker is near Wall and Main Streets is a great idea for a travel destination this year.

FROM MARGUERITE KEARNS:

This year, 2018, has been a busy one. The “Votes for Women”exhibition at the New York State Museum closed in mid May—followed by the dedication ceremony in Huntington, NY. I’ve been busy writing the story of my grandparents, Edna and Wilmer Kearns, and what it has been like for me to be the descendant of votes for women activists.
